Nscale AI Infrastructure: How Does a Company Like This Actually Scale So Fast?

I was reading about Nscale AI infrastructure and had a question about how a company like this actually works, since the funding headlines are very large but the business model is rarely explained clearly. Here is what I understood from my reading, and I would appreciate anyone correcting me or adding context.
Nscale positions itself as an AI-native infrastructure platform offering compute, networking, storage, and managed services through owned and colocated data centres. The pitch is a vertically integrated model, combining its own data centres, GPU infrastructure, and an AI specific software layer rather than selling isolated components. The company reportedly grew out of a cryptocurrency mining business, which may explain its experience with power hungry compute sites.
On the funding side, the numbers are unusual for a young company. It raised a $155 million Series A after emerging from stealth in 2024, then a $1.1 billion Series B, described as a record round for the UK and Europe, led by the Norwegian investor Aker. A further $433 million followed days later in the form of a pre Series C SAFE.

A lot of the activity seems tied to the idea of sovereign AI capacity. The company has been linked to Stargate UK and Stargate Norway, developed with OpenAI and Microsoft, and there is also a planned AI supercomputer at its Loughton campus in partnership with Microsoft.

My question is how the economics work for this kind of business. Data centre and GPU capacity seems extremely capital intensive, so I would like to understand how much depends on long term contracts with a small number of very large customers, how quickly GPU hardware loses value, and whether a vertically integrated approach is really an advantage over simply renting capacity.

Has anyone here worked in AI infrastructure or data centres, or followed this sector as an investor? How do you see the risks around power supply, hardware cycles, and customer concentration, and what would you look at to judge whether a company like this is sustainable?

Found a fairly clear explanation of this on Entrepreneur Plus while I was reading around the topic, helped me understand the founder side of it a bit better.
